    Our May StoryWalk® selection is: ‘Hank’s Big Day’ by Evan Kuhlman, illustrated by Chuck Groenink.

    Small bug, big adventures. Hank is a pill bug whose daily routine involves nibbling a dead leaf, climbing up a long stick, avoiding a skateboarder, and playing pretend with his best friend, a human girl named Amelia.

    Our StoryWalk® is a self-guided reading adventure that is available everyday for all ages. Pages of a picture book are displayed in frames on a trail around the perimeter of the lawn at Weaver Library. The goal of the StoryWalk® is to increase children’s interest in books and reading while encouraging healthy outdoor activity for all ages, and reconnecting children and adults to nature. To date, StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries, including Bermuda, Canada, England, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea.

  • Chick Week Storytime at WEAVER 11:00am

    Bring your child to this special Chick Week storytime, We will sing some songs, dance, and read a story about chickens. At the end, kids will have a chance to pet or hold live chicks that hatched right here at the Weaver Library.

    Ages 3+

    On April 12, a farm educator from Casey Farm set up an incubator, with 12 (do we have 12??) Rhody Red and Dominique eggs, in the children’s room at Weaver Library. The chicks are expected to hatch after 21 days, on Wednesday, May 3.  We will keep the chicks in a coop at Weaver through May 11. All are invited to come in and see them during that time. The chicks will go back to Casey Farm on May 12.

  • Curtain Call Reader’s Theatre at WEAVER 3:30pm

    Reader’s Theater is a form of drama where kids use short scripts or an adapted picture book, along with props and costumes, to practice and put on a play. Kids will improve reading skills and interact with stories in a creative new way! No memorization needed.

    Join Ms. Steph*  Thursday,  May 18th at 3:30pm at Weaver Library.

    Ages 7+

    This month- Little Read Riding Hood

    *Ms. Steph holds a BA in Creative Writing and an MA in Theatre Education. She is certified K-12 in Massachusetts.

  • Rhode Island SPCA Story Time at Riverside Library, 1pm

    This program is geared towards children 3-5 years old and focuses on humane education.  Topics discussed include kindness and empathy towards animals, as well as how you can help homeless pets in your community! A special shelter pet will join the guest reader and a fun craft will be provided after the story! No registration required.

    There will also be a donation basket available if you wish to donate any of the following items for sheltered animals at the RISPCA:

    Dogs: Fleece blankets, leashes, dog treats, bully sticks, kongs, nylabones, XL puppy pads.      Cats:  Canned cat food (pate), wand toys, small beds, cardboard scratchers

    Small pets like hamsters, gerbils, etc. : Small fleece blankets, wood chews, hanging hammocks, Oxbow small animal food and treats.

    Miscellaneous items: Postage stamps, paper towels, latex surgical gloves, freezer bags, trash bags.
