  • Mindful Living Everyday Series (Virtual) 7pm
    7:00 pm-8:00 pm
    October 13, 2021

This virtual series focuses on the practical application of mindfulness techniques. Much has been written about mindfulness and it’s benefits but often there is a lack of clarity about how it can make a difference in your daily personal and professional life.

In this three part series, we will explore mindfulness by practicing specific techniques that can be immediately incorporated into your daily life. We will discuss specific practices to address stress and to live more fully in the present moment.

Participants with no prior mindfulness experience are welcome, as are those practitioners who enjoy the practice in a community setting. These introductory sessions will be nonsequential, so participants may attend one or multiple sessions. The techniques will be presented in a manner that a new participant can follow easily but will allow those who have taken the earlier sessions to practice at a more advanced level.

At the end of each session, the instructor will remain online to discuss any questions or to provide more in-depth explanations.

Ms. McLaughlin is a certified yoga teacher and mindfulness instructor who teaches a variety of offerings of in-person classes and online courses in workplace sessions and community settings. She is also a facilitator for Meditate Together, hosted by Mindful Leader, a worldwide program that offers free live group meditation sessions, 24 hours a day, five days a week in an effort to help as many people as possible during these challenging times.

Those who register will receive the Zoom link prior to the event. Register by completing the form below.

  • Reading Buddies @ Weaver Library
    1:00 pm-6:00 pm
    October 28, 2021

Participating in Reading Buddies is a great way for kids to practice reading aloud, and to keep up their reading skills. Our reading buddy, Mr. Pat, part of the AmeriCorps Seniors East Bay Foster Grandparent Program (EBFGP), has been a reading mentor at the East Providence Library for over five years. He is a supportive, enthusiastic listener who can help your child practice reading here at the library.

Children who participate can sign up to read, and play literacy puzzles and games, with Mr. Pat for a weekly 45 minute time period. Kids can choose their own books to read with Mr. Pat, who will listen and help sound out words and assist with comprehension. Pre-readers can choose a book, or several, to listen to as their Reading Buddy reads to them!

Call the Children’s Room at Weaver Library (401-434-2453) to schedule a weekly 45 minute reading session on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays between 1:15-5:45.
