    The Fuller Creative Learning Center invites you meet new people while sharing your ideas during a series of light-hearted gatherings on the lawn during August.  The series is free, chairs will be provided, and the moderator is Betsy Shea-Taylor who has also moderated the Socrates Café at Weaver Public Library for five years. Those who register will be contacted if weather cancels any of the gatherings.

    Monday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. Gratitude
    When did you last feel grateful for something someone did for you? What was it and how did it make you feel? Did you thank them? How? Do we show our gratitude as much as we could? Do we wave at the driver who lets us into traffic? Do we thank family members and co-workers for their help?

    Monday, Aug. 8: Holiday, no meeting.

    Children will cover the sidewalk in five minutes with colored chalk. But how do adults play, except on a screen? When’s the last time any of us rode a carousel or tried croquet or danced at Larisa Park on a music night in summer? Why or why not? What was most fun for you, when you were a child?

    When’s the last time someone really listened to you and made you feel that they understood what you were feeling? What was that like? Do we listen enough to each other or are we more content to argue? Can we listen calmly to someone who has ideas that may differ from ours? Why or why not?

    Monday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m. Awe
    Awe is amazement at a sight – such as a rainbow or the ocean — an accomplishment, an experience. A few years go, a small boy at a fancy Boston classical music concert shouted “WOW” when the music ended and before people had started applauding. He made national news for displaying his awe. What fills you with awe?

  • Outdoor Summer Concert Series: Governor’s Own 88th Army Band

    FlexWinds and Coyote Brass are musical performance teams from the “Governor’s Own” 88th Army Band. These groups take pride in their flexibility of instrumentation and genres of music.

    Flexwinds performs unique instrumentation that allows for a variety of timbre and the opportunity to feature each Soldier. From concerts to ceremonies, they are always ready to perform whatever mission comes their way! Coyote Brass from the “Governor’s Own” 88th Army Band is a 7-member ensemble that features two paired horns (trumpet and saxophone) as well as a trombone, sousaphone, and drums. This high energy, funk-inspired brass ensemble aims to provide entertainment to audiences through dance, groove, and auditory stimuli.

    Flexwinds will perform first for roughly 30 minutes and Coyote Brass will perform for roughly 40 minutes.

    Concerts located on Weaver Library lawn. Free and open to all, bring your own chair.

    Join us as the Weaver Library Farmers Market enters its 9th year. Shop weekly for fresh, local food and enjoy live performances. This year includes many of our favorite vendors as well as some exciting new ones. A variety of Pop-up Artisans will be featured.The Market table will offer granola, hot sauce, maple syrup, marinara sauce, market bags, and Marley’s Earrings! The Friends of the East Providence Public Library will again host their weekly book sale.

    We continue to prioritze Food Access with our Welcome Table accepting SNAP/EBT, WIC coupons, and credit or debit cards. Thanks to a grant from Farm Fresh RI, SNAP customers can double their SNAP. For every dollar swiped, SNAP customers get a FREE dollar in Bonus Bucks for fruits and vegetables.

    Join us as the Weaver Library Farmers Market enters its 9th year. Shop weekly for fresh, local food and enjoy live performances. This year includes many of our favorite vendors as well as some exciting new ones. A variety of Pop-up Artisans will be featured.The Market table will offer granola, hot sauce, maple syrup, marinara sauce, market bags, and Marley’s Earrings! The Friends of the East Providence Public Library will again host their weekly book sale.

    We continue to prioritze Food Access with our Welcome Table accepting SNAP/EBT, WIC coupons, and credit or debit cards. Thanks to a grant from Farm Fresh RI, SNAP customers can double their SNAP.     Join us for our annual mural painting event where you can earn community service hours! This program is open to all ages 12+. You will design and paint a themed mural as a group with the help of local artist Rebecca Killian of Mermaid Masterpieces. The finished mural will be displayed at Weaver Library.     Kids can drop in to read to our favorite Cocker Spaniel Danny at Weaver Library on Monday, August 15, 4:00-6:00. Listening to kids read is one of Danny’s favorite activities! Parents, bring your child for stress-free reading practice.

    Studies have found that reading aloud to dogs improved children’s attitudes toward books and increased their confidence. Dogs, relaxed and nonjudgemental, seem to help even struggling readers enjoy a book.

    Registration is not necessary.

    Established in 1974, Navy Band Northeast is based on board Naval Station Newport and is one of 11 official U.S. Navy bands worldwide, providing musical support for military ceremonies, recruiting, morale and retention programs, and community relations. This group of 30 professional Navy musicians supports more than 300 engagements annually throughout an 12-state area of responsibility, performing regularly for high-ranking military and civilian dignitaries, Navy Recruiting, public outreach and awareness efforts, and partnership in education programs throughout the Northeast United States. The primary components of Navy Band Northeast are: Pops Ensemble, Marching and Ceremonial Bands, Popular Music Group, Brass Quintet, and Woodwind Quartet. All ensembles perform a wide range of music from patriotic, classical, contemporary, big band swing, country, and the latest top-40 hits.

    The Trident Brass quintet specializes in chamber music from a variety of styles including classical, jazz, commercial, marches, and patriotic music.
