ART SALE: The Leonard Iannacone Collection “SPACES AND PLACES IN RHODE ISLAND”

View Calendar

The East Providence Historical Society presents two sales of its Len Iannacone collection, a life’s worth of drawings, oils, and prints of his beloved RI and East Providence. Len was a 1st generation Italian American who grew up near Pierce Field, went to local schools and graduated from RISD. He played tennis at the Indoor Court, loved the East Providence High School Band and was loyal to his family’s roots. Some of you may remember his raccoon coats? Late in life, Len opened a gallery on Warren Avenue filling 5 rooms with his own works. In the early 1990s, Len could be found sketching at Hunt’s Mills and socializing with all of the volunteers, especially Ginny Berwick and Edna Anness. We have kept sketches of Hunt House (as he thought it might look like when we were finished) and the gristmill for our collection.

We have tried to photograph these 65 works as clearly as possible but some are quite old and need to be seen in person. There are original drawings galore and prints for everybody. His oil of the Oyster House at Watchemoket was displayed at the Providence Art Club. Len’s oils are very unique and we only have 5.You will notice that some framing is highly ornate and decorative,  done by Len himself in most cases.

Len’s estate was very generous to East Providence groups, including the Historical Society. These sales are a collaboration by the Historical Society, the East Providence Libraries and the East Providence Arts Council and proceeds will be shared. This is your chance to own an original work showing the places and spaces we live in seen through Len Ianacone’s artistry.

Saturday, October 1: 12 – 4pm Weaver Library – Grove Ave – 02914

A suggested price will be on each picture at the sale.

A  grouping of Len’s East Providence artwork will be on display at City Hall from Sept 19 – 30.
