The modern Providence Mandolin Orchestra dates from the early 1970s, when it was revived by Hibbard Perry. Since then, the PMO has become one of the leading American mandolin ensembles with regular performances throughout the eastern United States and Western Europe. The PMO’s music director since 1989, Mark Davis, began his guitar and mandolin studies with Hibbard Perry in Rhode Island and continued his musical training with the eminent German guitarist Siegfried Behrend. Davis has performed widely in the United States and abroad and has made numerous recordings.

Join the East Providence Public Library, the EP Prevention Coalition, and the EP Health Equity Zone for a fun hour of community bonding and expression! Meet new folks as you paint to your heart’s desire – all over the walls and floors!

Painting materials and ponchos will be provided as well as mocktails and appetizers available. Make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind being covered in paint!

We will be CLOSING at Noon on Good Friday – April 7, 2023

Kids and teens in grades 6-12 join us once a month for an evening of role playing games, board games, and more! We will meet at Riverside Branch from 4-7pm on the second Monday of each month January – May. Have a game you love to play? Bring it along and share it with us. You do not need to register, just drop in!

The Rhythm Room with Rick Morin is coming to Weaver Library!  Make some noise and keep the beat with buckets and drumsticks. All instruments provided. This is a hands-on, interactive program and it will be loud! Ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones are welcome.

*This event will be held outdoors. Please bring a blanket to sit on. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved  indoors and tickets will be available 1 hour before, limit 40 patrons. Ages 0-10.

Students learn about the owls that live in Rhode Island and their habitats, diet, senses, structures and functions. Older students will have the opportunity to test their skills as owl detectives, while younger children will discover owl senses through fun hands-on activities. This program will also feature a live owl!

An educator from Casey Farm will present Project Chick which is a slideshow about the life cycle of chickens. This presentation also includes a display of many different bird eggs, and kids get to hold lived chicks at the end. They also bring an adult chicken to show the audience. The educator will also set up an incubator of chicken eggs in the Children’s Room. They will hatch 21 days later.

Life in New England was very different 350 years ago. Many things would seem almost alien to us, yet other things would be quite familiar. Yet here in Rhode Island…. well, things are always a little bit different in Rhode Island.

Let’s face it, we were founded by an outlaw and have held the same respect for the law ever since. Roger Williams himself (portrayed by Park Ranger John McNiff) will talk about himself, his travels across the ocean, and his issues with Massachusetts. Roger will be happy to answer any questions you might have about his life, his adventures, and even what he liked to eat.

This program is appropriate for adults and kids, ages 7+.

The AAFRF Mission is to empower both active and retired first responders to address their mental and emotional health needs through the transformative power of peer support and the arts. Through our programs, we strive to create a safe and supportive community where first responders can share their experiences, find understanding, and pursue healing through the creative process. By providing these free programs, we can help first responders cope with the unique challenges of their profession and lead more fulfilling and healthy lives.

Reader’s Theater is a form of drama where kids use short scripts or an adapted picture book, along with props and costumes, to practice and put on a play. Kids will improve reading skills and interact with stories in a creative new way! No memorization needed.
