Oxford Encyclopedia of the Middle  Ages [1]
This reliable source provides 3,000 articles on all aspects of the period from the fifth to the fifteenth century [2]. It explores art, architecture, religion, law, science, language, philosophy, and theology, as well as cultural, religious, intellectual, social and political history.

Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt [1]
The Encyclopedia offers 600 articles on ancient Egyptian [3] civilization, from the predynastic era to its eclipse in the seventh century CE. Included is information on art, architecture, religion, language, literature, trade, politics, everyday social life and the culture of the court.

Oxford Encyclopedia of the Renaissance [1]
This dictionary provides 4000 entries on all aspects of the Renaissance in 14th to 17th century Europe. It includes comprehensive coverage of the art, literature, science, culture, philosophy, religion, economics, history, and conflicts of the period. Nearly half the entries are biographical, covering artists, thinkers, statesman, and reformers.

The Colonial America Reference Library provides comprehensive information on the Colonial American period including biographical profiles and primary source documents.

Dictionary of American History [4]
This comprehensive and reliable 10 volume reference source covers all major aspects of America from the beginning of the country until recent events.

Providence Journal Archives
This source will retrieve the full text of locally generated articles from the Providence Journal from 1983 to the present. It does not include obituaries that were printed the last several years.

World Book Early Peoples [5]
This colorfully illustrated database has articles on early peoples worldwide such as the Aztecs and Incas, groups in Africa and Australia. It includes videos, animations and interactive activities.  An AskRI database.

American Memory [6]
The Library of Congress offers a wealth of primary source material on all aspects of the history of United States.

History Reference Center [7]
History Reference Center offers full text from more than 1,620 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, more than 150 leading history periodicals, nearly 57,000 historical documents, more than 78,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 113,000 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video.

Smithsonian [8]
The Encyclopedia Smithsonian has text, videos and interactive displays on many topics of American history and culture. The site contains colorful illustrations and reliable information on topics such as art and design, science and technology, advertising, food, and space history. This site also contains useful lesson plans and resources for teachers.

National Park Service [9] 
This website is not searchable, but is great for browsing. It has colorfully illustrated information on American history, people, places and events for students and teachers and those just curious. There are also online educational games.

Mashantucket Pequot Museum [10]
This website contains information on Native lifestyles, history, society and culture.

State of Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission  [11]    These online versions of the books include text, maps and many photographs of historical events and structures in the various towns of Rhode Island.

Have Fun with History [12]  
This website features videos on topics of American history.
