Assignment Alert-When classes are working on long-term assignments The Weaver library librarians are happy to set aside appropriate items for in-library use. This is highly recommended to avoid situations where an entire class requires books on a similar topic, only to find them all checked out.
It is requested that assignment alerts be submitted one week in advance to allow materials to arrive from other libraries if necessary.
This request will be
honored by phone, fax, e-mail, or in-person delivery.
Simply download the
Assignment Alert form
here or fill
out an e-mail form.
(Assignment alert forms are also available from the Library's Reference and Children’s Services desks.)
Library Services to Elementary, Middle and High School Teachers
Special Requests
Assignment Alert-When
classes are working on long-term assignments (ex. Medieval Times, WW II) a Youth
Services Librarian will set aside
appropriate items for in-library use.
Item Requests-Teachers may contact the Reference or Youth Services Department at any time to request that items on a particular subject and/or specific titles be placed on hold for pick-up.
Classroom
Visits
Booktalks-A
Youth Services Librarian is available to booktalk contemporary popular fiction to
students. Requests for booktalks on a particular theme or genre geared toward
classroom curriculum are also welcome. Accommodations can be made for students
to “check out” the books in the classroom.
Book Discussion-If teachers wish to incorporate additional reading into their courses, a Youth Services Librarian is available to lead a discussion of the novel during class time.
Read Aloud-A Youth Services Librarian is available to share stories with students in the classroom. This may include reading books aloud, telling stories, sharing activity songs and/or games, etc. depending on the preference of the classroom teacher.
Informational-Brief classroom visits to inform students about upcoming youth programs and library resources are available. These visits may also include a short booktalk.
Library
Fieldtrips
Teachers are always
welcome to bring their classes to the library to conduct research for school
assignments. A Youth Services Librarian is available to provide a library tour
and introduce students to print and online reference sources.
These visits may be general (ex. tour, location of items and departments and use of library catalog) or specific (ex. use of online magazine index to locate articles on a specific topic or introduction to specific reference books for locating literary criticism).
In order for these sessions to be successful, please try to contact a Youth Services Librarian two weeks in advance . This allows time for preparation and ordering of materials from other libraries.
Other Requests
Youth Services
Librarians are
available to provide reading recommendations, to compile booklists and
bibliographies, and to assist with compiling the summer reading lists.
If you would like the library to purchase specific books, DVDs, CDs, etc. please let our librarians know.
Other suggestions and requests for collaboration are always welcome.
